I was born into a Christian home and was raised here at CBC. I accepted Christ as my Savior when I was in elementary school. However, it wasn’t until high school that I really understood what that meant. I knew I was a sinner, and I needed Jesus to forgive me. I rededicated my life to Christ at that time, acknowledging His free gift of life through Jesus’ death. I enjoyed high school, followed the Lord on missions trips and attended Student Body.
When I went off to college, I started living for myself and my friends more than I was for God. I was still attending church off and on, but mostly because that’s what I’ve always done on Sundays.
After a couple years of college, I felt God convicting me of the way I was living. I had met Kelly, and we were dating for a little bit before I took action on my convictions. I began attending church with Kelly on a more regular basis. Shortly after, we were engaged and then married.
Kelly and I both decided that we would make Christ the foundation of our marriage and put God first. Recently in my life, Christ has been teaching me the power of prayer and trusting in Him. This has been particularly helpful over the past year with the economy and jobs. Kelly had lost two jobs, and my company has laid a couple people off (which could have easily been me). But knowing that God has a plan for our lives helped me trust in Him and know that He would provide for our needs.
A verse that has always been a part of my life is Romans 5:8, “ But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
